As a result from the long-term partnership between Pontetorto and HeiQ, a leader in textile innovation, we are pleased to announce the innovative production of fabrics resistant to harmful microbes thanks to HeiQ Viroblock technology. Textiles for clothing, as well as furniture, provide an ideal surface for contamination by viruses and bacteria and contaminated fabric can carry pathogens. In this moment of pandemic emergency, preventing bacteria and viruses from contaminating textiles, can be extremely important to minimize transmission opportunities. Pontetorto has been conducting this innovative research for several months with the HeiQ Viroblock treatment and now offers various technical and fashion fabrics designed to reduce contamination by viruses and bacteria. “Our primary commitment”, says Enrico Banci, vice-president of Pontetorto Spa, “is to offer an additional protection for the epidemic emergency of Covid-19 with these fabrics. Equally relevant is the need for us to offer highly reusable products on the market to reduce, we hope significantly, the enormous amount of contaminated disposable fabrics that is already creating a serious problem in terms of sustainability”. Pontetorto, being always sensitive to environmental issues, promptly activated its research and development laboratories to respond with fabrics that guarantee resistance to washing and conservation over time. HeiQ Viroblock treatment is guaranteed and tested in accordance with ISO 20743 and ISO 18184. The business development plan provides the possibility of shortly extending the use of HeiQ Viroblock over the entire range of products, from highly specialized medical, to fashion and, of course, to workwear.


From Pontetorto research comes a new eco-sustainable and high-performance Biopile fabric made with hemp.The inner side of this new Biopile is made with hemp while the outside fabric is obtained from a continuous filament of 100% polyester recycled from PET.
Hemp is a natural textile fibre, obtained from the long stem fibre of the herbaceous plant of the same name. Hemp fiber is among the fibers that best responds to the biological concept, also offering an excellent response to the needs of versatility and practicality.
Hemp fabric is highly protective as it filters 95% of ultraviolet rays and shields against electromagnetic fields. It has considerable absorption power and easily disperses body moisture thanks to its high breathability. Being a hollow fiber, it is characterized by a thermostatic effect that allows to develop a sort of “natural thermal insulation” thanks to which it is possible to perceive a feeling of freshness in summer and warmth in winter, creating an optimal body microclimate without causing bacterial proliferation, often responsible for bad smells. Hemp is also naturally antimicrobial and is an ecological textile fibre as it does not require pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers during cultivation.
The new Biopile has the same biodegradability characteristics as the Biopile previously made of Tencel, a fiber certified as biodegradable in sea water: even the hemp Biopile is completely degraded in 90 days in sea water.
